Here is a message from Laura, our new JV Leader:
Hello everyone,
I am so looking forward to meeting you all and teaching the wide range of material that I have gathered together over the years.
I originally came from Woodton, moving to Bungay after University and have been in this friendly town ever since finding it the perfect base for all my projects!
I have been a vocal and piano teacher, choir leader and singer for around 15 years now and have enjoyed every minute. I feel very lucky that I love the work I do and the people of all ages that I meet doing it. I especially enjoy teaching group work bringing people together and the beautiful sounds harmony singing can create which is why I have been performing in a 3 part harmony group called The Voxettes for many years now. We have covered a range of styles from Gospel, Folk, Soul and Motown through to easy listening pop. This has led to many exciting opportunities including doing a tour with Soul Queen Martha High (she was James Brown's longstanding backing singer!) I was part of the Gospel choir at University learning a lot of beautiful material which inspired me to study in the Goldsmiths Gospel choir in London. This genre is definitely one of my favourites.
Growing up at home I was heavily influenced by my parents' record collection with artists such as Carole King, Simon and Garfunkel and the Carpenters. I used to sit at the piano as soon as I was home from school playing through my song books and composing tunes. Once at university, Jazz became a big focus alongside the Gospel choirs and therefore most of my solo gigs lean towards these styles of music.
When I teach I try to get the choir to explore a range of styles to find their favourites and push themselves. I’m really looking forward to sharing what I have gathered with you and hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Warmest wishes, Laura
Please note that there are calendar changes. We are starting 24 September and an extra date, 1 October, has been added to bring the term up to its full quota.

As you will have heard at the end of term party, Mary Lovett is taking a year’s sabbatical from September. Mary has introduced us to Laura Calver who is going to take over from her. Laura is a local girl living in Bungay and a great singer herself. She performs with the Voxettes – many of you will have heard this trio at the Fisher and elsewhere. She is also an experienced choir leader in charge of 2 choirs within high schools locally. We are very lucky and very pleased that she’ll be taking on JV. laura's choire repertoire is similar to Mary's and we can look forward to learning new songs from around the world with her. Laura will be introducing herself, so watch out for another email soon.
Please note, there is a calendar change – our first session will be 24 September, not 10th as originally published. This change is on the website.
Both Mary and Laura will be at the first session for the “hand-over”. We’ll be able to say cheerio to Mary and welcome Laura.
And a note regarding fees – the first 2 sessions will be £5 for everyone whether you normally pay for a block of 8 or drop-in. After the first 2, the drop-in rate will go back to £7 and the block rate for the remaining sessions of the term will be £5 as usual.

Dear JoyfulsA reminder that we meet again on Tuesday, 26 February in Emmanuel Church Rooms at 7 pm as usual.
Following the success of Bungay Film Club's invitation to Joyfuls to see Oh Brother, Katharine recommends next week's Bungay Film Club film. It has great music and she's sure we'll really enjoy it. Here are the details:

We meet again tomorrow, Tuesday, 5 February in Emmanuel Church Rooms at 7 pm as usual.
Here is a message from JV singer, Janette, about Chevington Lodge in Bungay. I'm sure Janette will be delighted to tell you more in person.
Knowing that some of our choir members have grandchildren, would it be possible to tell them about Friends In Deed which is a charity linking care homes with babies and toddlers?
I helped out at the session at Chevington Lodge in Bungay today and it was wonderful to see the change in the residents when they played with the children. The next sessions at Chevington Lodge are on Mondays 10.30 to 12.00.

Thank you. Really need to spread the word. Janette
There are 2 concerts coming up that have been mentioned at JV recently. Mary is singing with the Voice Project in Bungay on 9 Feb. Unfortunately, the event is sold out, so well done if you already have a ticket!
Anam Cora are performing on Sunday, 10 Feb in Woodbridge - the poster is below and on our website.

Dear Joyfuls
Our final 2018 sing was last Tuesday - great that so many Joyfuls were there.
Here are details of 2 events to kick start the New Year:
On 5 January, 7 pm, at St Peter’s Church, Brooke, John and Stephane's daughter Liz McIntosh will be leading "Sing in the New Year". There will be a bar for real ale, wine & soft drinks, bread and cheese in the interval. £5 on the door. Joyfuls who attended last year's event had a wonderful time and thoroughly recommended it.
On 8 January, we have our film night, "Oh Brother", at the Fisher. Tickets are now on sale and can be bought online (with an additional charge of £1.50) or at the Fisher box office which is open 10-3 Monday to Saturday and on performance evenings. £5 each, possibly £3 to Film Club members.
Posters for both events are on the JV website Events page: http://www.joyfulvoices.co.uk/events.html
Some emails still seem to be going astray, so if you think you may have missed something, you'll be able to find them on our website: http://www.joyfulvoices.co.uk/choir-emails.html
Last, but by no means least, do check out Mary's wonderful new website: https://www.marylovettmusic.com/
And many thanks to Mary for another fantastic JV year.
Happy Christmas Everyone.
Best wishes,
Carolyn for JV

Dear Joyfuls
Our next session is Tuesday, 27 November, 7 pm in Emmanuel Church Room as usual. Mary will be bringing a photographer with her to take some candid shots for her new website. As you know, we only really have photos of JV at concerts and they don't reflect our regular non-performance sessions. You can dip out of having your photo taken if you wish, but hopefully we'll all look like the Joyfuls we are! Mary has already done this with her Norwich choir and it was very successful with some great photos being taken.
Some Joyfuls are still having difficulty receiving emails so from now on I'll be putting them on the website under Choir Emails so you can check if you've missed something.
Here are a couple of notes from the last email:
We have a calendar change in January. On 8 Jan, thanks to Katherine, we will see Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? at the Fisher Theatre. As you know, Mary is teaching us some of the wonderful songs from this film. We will have a replacement session singing on 15 Jan - this is an extra date so please put it in your diaries. The revised calendar is on the website: http://www.joyfulvoices.co.uk/calendar.html
New on the Gallery page of the website are the photos taken of us at our Summer Concert by members of Bungay Camera Club. Here's the link: http://www.joyfulvoices.co.uk/concert-2018.html
